Yes, this is true "black cumin" (black zira, kala jeera, Latin nomenclature: Bunium Persicum and also Elwendia Persica), a spice related to regular yellow cumin (zira, latin: Cuminum Cyminum), but not identical to it. Standard cumin (Cuminum Cyminum) is common in Uzbek plov, many other Central Asian dishes, and also Mexican dishes (and "taco seasoning").Black cumin - this "Kala Jeera" - has a more complex, deep savory flavor, which makes meat stews and plov more interesting. Add it while sautéing the aromatics - onion, carrots, etc. This spice is NOT:NOT caraway (Carum Carvi) - I like caraway, but it's completely wrong for anything Asian :) This properly labeled packaging has a white little sticker with "caraway" label on it. Wrong.NOT Nigella Sativa (aka "black seed", "black caraway", "black cumin" - lots of wrong names). Personally I think Nigella Sativa has a nasty flavor. I have it and I have no use for it. Nasty.NOT regular cumin, but works as a secondary layer in dishes that do use regular cumin. Especially PLOV :)Clear as mud? I don't understand this confusion - there's a reason sciences like medicine, botany and zoology use Latin nomenclature - to eliminate this type of confusion. So to properly translate, don't ask Google, Wikipedia or ChatGPT. Find the Latin name and then search by it in the target language. There are many spice seeds with similar shape - cumin, caraway, fennel seed, aniseed. All have different aroma and flavor. Just because they look similar (not same), doesn't meant they are interchangeable.I only gave 4 stars because this isn't the highest grade - seeds are smaller than they can be, and with more chaff. Nothing wrong with that, just not the highest grade.
