Recent User Experience

Rouladen Recipe Using Maggi Fix & Fresh Mix1 package of mix is enough for 3 to 4 Rouladen. I used two packs and it was just right for 5 adults. You will need 375 ML (a little over 12 ounces) of water per package (Most measuring cups have the milliliter on them)Most Rouladen recipes have you doing everything in a Dutch Oven, which would cut down on cleanup, but I didn't have one, so my instructions are for a Crock Pot.1 Small OnionBacon – 1 full slice per steakBrown Mustard - spicy or notKosher Dill Pickle slices - enough for each steak to cover the baconI use either the Top Round or London broil, have them cut it thin enough to roll up. The thinnest they will cut is about 1/4 inch.I also like to get them to run them thru the tenderizer so I don’t have to beat them as much when I get them home.Get one piece of steak per person. Sometimes they are big enough to make 2 out of one.I precook enough bacon for each roulade to have a whole slice (or more.)If necessary, pound out meat until it is as flat as you can make it, you want each one to be big enough for an adult serving.Season meat with salt and pepper, liberally spread brown mustard on one side of steak, add a slice of bacon and the dill pickles.Roll up with string or use toothpicks to hold it together. In pan, melt some butter and sauté chopped onions, then add meat and brown on all sides. In measuring cup or bowl add seasoning package(s) with the water and stir it up well, making sure everything is dissolved.Once meat is brown place in bottom of crock pot and turn on high.Pour gravy mix in the pan with the sautéed onions and deglaze the pan completely. When done, pour over meat in crock pot and add the lid.Cook on high for about 2 hours, gravy should be bubbling. Take off lid and stir and baste meat, careful not to break up rouladen.Switch to low and cook until you can tell meat is fork tender (about 1 1/2 - 2 hours).Remove meat and stir and thicken gravy with cornstarch and water.Tastes great with mashed potatoes or rice and cucumber salad!
